I got a 5 year old and I really want to quit for my kid. I never smoke around him but I learned recently that even if I smoke elsewhere I can still affect my son negatively with my smoking habit. I really have to do this for him but it's proving to be much more difficult than anticipated.

I've been smoking for 4 years now and I definitely notice the difference when I play basketball with my buddies. I guess what I should say is, I can hardly play basketball now. It's really time that I stop smoking... I'm only in my early 30s and I have a hard time playing basketball. If there are any of you out there in your 20s who believe you will be physically fine smoking, you are kidding yourselves. Haaaa... I hate this, but I guess I have to try quitting.

Oh yeah... having anything that reminds you cigarettes is a bad idea. I once went nearly 30 hours without smokes before I saw a match laying around on the far end of my desk and the craving just kicked in and I couldn't stop myself from smoking. definitely get rid of all your matches, lighters, and anything else that reminds you of cigarettes. At least pack them away where you can't see them.

I tried quitting a couple of times last month but I haven't had success so far. I couldn't get past the 7th hour and I ended smoking again on both occasions. I always thought I quit whenever I wanted but I was totally wrong about it. I'm gonna give a try again this month and the next month again if it doesn't work. I want to quit really badly.

Tell me about it, I got my girlfriend screaming in my left ear to quit smoking and I got my mom saying the same in my right ear. I tell them they stress me out unnecessarily and that they make it even harder for me to quit, but they keep at it anyways. They don't know how hard it is to quit smoking. I mean this things is the most difficult thing I ever had to do. I wish I would have never picked up this habit to begin with, but there's no point in regretting about this. I wish they would just leave me alone and maybe I should make them read this article lol~

I have been trying to give up smoking for the past 5 years without much success. Maybe it's time that I tried something completely different. I tried cold turkey, the patches and the gums, and I even tried acupuncture, it's too bad because acupuncture worked for my buddy. This giving up smoking business is really tough... I really want to say goodbye to this crappy happy. Anyways, this is something to think about.

My girlfriend is moving to my home with her son and she's asked me to seriously consider quitting smoking. I guess family can be a great motivator to quit as you say, but the truth is that I barely know the kid and I don't yet care for him much. I know that sounds mean, but it's the truth and I can't bring myself to quit smoking. I smoke about half a pack a day and I enjoy the moments that I smoke. It's not like I smoke much and I really don't want to quit. I wanted to try the natural way, but do you think it might be easier with something like a nicotine patch or gums?

I tried nicotine gum and patches so far and they haven't worked for me. I was going through them faster than I smoke cigarettes and I knew they weren't going to work for me. I'm thinking I'll have to go with cold turkey on the next one, but I failed with nicotine gums and patches, I wonder how well I would fare going cold turkey. I wish I would have never picked up this stinking habit... it is so freaking difficult to quit.

I don't know how I'm going to go without a cigarette when I'm on the phone, driving, or when I hang out in the backyard with my buddies. Dang, I'm really torn about not being able to smoke after a meal.. I mean that's a killer. Anyone who's a smoker knows how important that puff is after meals. I am going to try exercising and I'll also drink lots of water like you advice, but I don't know.. this is going to be hard.

I have failed quitting smoking twice already... but you are right, I think it does get easier with each try. I was thinking of just giving up quitting, but I'm going to keep at it. Maybe I'll try to last longer each time I try and hopefully I'll get to a point where I'm super confident about quitting.
